The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) provides a pathway into the graduate entry Doctor of Medicine offered by the University of Melbourne in Shepparton for regional students intending to practice medicine in a regional location.
There have been some updates to the course and entry requirements to be aware of:
- The raw minimum ATAR for this course has been lowered from 85 to 80 ATAR.
- The weighted average mark (WAM) that students need to secure a place in the University of Melbourne’s Doctor of Medicine Rural Pathway, has been reduced from 75 to 70 WAM.
- Multiple mini interviews (MMI) are conducted as part of the course selection process. For students to be considered for the MMI, they need to complete the rurality form and submit it by no later than 5pm AEDT Friday 4 December 2020.
- This course is now included in the Regional Benefits Scholarship program. Students aren’t granted guaranteed entry however every student that enters the program from Year 12 will be entitled to a scholarship of up to $5000 a year for the duration of their three-year undergraduate degree at La Trobe.
- The course is now part of the Aspire Early Admissions Program. Note that although it is included it only guarantees a place at the MMI in January.
Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) Aspire conditions
The Aspire offer will be for an interview only, not a conditional offer in the degree.
Students will need to:
- Meet the rurality requirements and complete the rurality form.
- Preference the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) Albury-Wodonga or Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) Bendigo in their VTAC or UAC preferences.
- Complete the Aspire application and preference the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) – Interview Only.
- Meet the minimum requirements: an adjusted 80 ATAR and a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.
- If successful in an offer, attend the interview in January 2021.
